In Russia we pay 3 times as many taxes as here. And not for schools and roads. No. For the Czar’s pockets!…And the man who is brave enough to complain about the taxes, they come in the middle of the night and they take him away. No trial, no jury…He is gone. Nobody ever sees him again…When I was in Russia I paid my taxes. Bu the tax collector, he thinks I am hiding something. They take away our land, our home, animals, food and they throw us off our land with only the clothes we are wearing…I give thanks that my family and I could leave Russia and come live [in America]. And I pray to god so that all the others who we left behind could come here too, to the home of the freedom.
